THE CAREER
The field of accounting offers stimulating and challenging work that is constantly evolving. Because accountants spend considerable time 'looking under the hood' of businesses, they also learn how many businesses work. In small companies, accountants handle most aspects of financial transactions. In larger companies they may be more specialized, concentrating on accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll or many other areas. As today's organizations computerize their financial records, today's accountant needs to be technologically savvy.

THE PROGRAMS
Elmira Business Institute offers two choices accounting courses:
Associate Degree Program
This EBI 16-month accounting training program will teach you income control, budgeting, and basic accounting skills. EBI graduates of this course usually work as bookkeepers, cost accountants, tax preparers and accounting clerks.

General Business Accounting Certificate Program
EBI offers accounting classes in an 8–month certificate program will teach you the use of accounting software programs to collect and interpret data. You'll also learn about the important relationship between business administration and technology.

THE JOB OUTLOOK
According to government statistics, there are about 2 million jobs in this industry. The large size of this occupation ensures a large number of job openings. Many opportunities for temporary and part-time work are also available.
