THE CAREER
Legal Assistants work for lawyers. They perform much of the background work for lawyers, and work under their direct supervision. They also conduct legal research using judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that may be relevant to assigned cases in order to identify the appropriate laws. Employment can be part-time or full-time, by an attorney, law firm, corporation, governmental agency, or other legal entity.
THE PROGRAM
Elmira Business Institute has its own ‘legal administrative assistant college’.In this unique program, EBI provides complete legal office assistant training to enable you to function successfully in law offices, corporate law departments, courts and government agencies. Course material covers keyboarding, legal terminology, office procedures, business law and legal transcription. An introduction to paralegal training is included. Upon successful completion of this course, you will earn your Legal Assistant degree from EBI College.
THE JOB OUTLOOK
Employment for this career is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through 2014. Private law firms will continue to be the largest employer of Legal Office Assistants followed by corporations who, in particular, are boosting their in-house legal departments to cut costs.
